Breast augmentation is one of the most popular breast aesthetic surgeries in the world. It is a surgical procedure whereby the size of the breast is increased through the use of implants or fat transferred from other areas of the body. This procedure is informally known as a ‘boob job’ or ‘breast enlargement’. Typically when a breast augmentation takes place patients predominately opt for implants.
While having small breasts is a preference for some women, for others they can have a negative impact on one’s self-esteem and confidence hindering day to day life. Many women have smaller breasts this could be by nature, a change in breast shape, loss of volume in the breast from weight fluctuations or breasts have drooped to ageing.

Types of Implants:
There is a wide selection of implant sizes, shapes and textures to cater to your needs. In brief, all breast implants have a silicone shell but fall into these two categories: saline or silicone.
Saline implants are filled with a sterile water solution. Often considered the safer option, the contents of saline implants can be naturally absorbed by the body if they were to leak or rupture. Should saline implants be your choice it is good to bear in mind that they tend to have rippled edges.
Whereas, silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. These implants are the preferred type as they offer a more natural feel in comparison to saline implants. Commonly referred to as ‘gummy bear’, silicone implants have been continuously developed. They have been reinvented to prevent leakage and ruptures.
We offer our clients the best quality implants by using Mentor branded implants that are FDA approved.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
What will happen before my operation?
To begin with, you will have a consultation with the surgeon to determine why you want breast augmentation surgery. Your surgeon will ask questions regarding your health (including any current medication).
An examination of your breasts will take place and your weight and height will be noted down. It is common for pictures to be taken for medical records at this stage.
During this time, you will also find out what options are best for you to achieve your needs.
Please note that if you are overweight or planning to be pregnant the surgeon could suggest a delay in surgery.
How will my Implants be inserted?
Incisions will be made either along the inframammary fold (under the breast crease), in the armpit or around the areola. A pocket will be made whereby the breast implant to be placed.
Where will my implants be placed?
Placement of breast implants differ for each patient as each patient has specific demands. Three common placements for breast implants are as follows:
- Over the pectoral muscle (Subglandular insertion)
- Under the pectoral muscle (Submuscular insertion)
- Partially under the pectoral muscle (Dual-plane insertion)
How will I know what implant size is best for me?
Implant sizes are measured by ‘cc’ also known as fill volume. Within your initial examination, the surgeon will discuss what ‘cc’ is best for you according to your needs, the elasticity of the skin and the size of your ribcage as well as existing breast tissue.
Will I lose sensation in my nipples?
Sensation in the nipple will usually return after a few months. Permanent loss of feeling is highly unlikely.
If I were to get pregnant after a breast augmentation, will I be able to breastfeed?
While breast implants will not be an obstacle for pregnancy and lactation, we would advise you to not fall pregnant within at least six months of the surgery to ensure you are fully healed.
